The southern Chinese city of Jingdezhen is probably one of the first places in the world where porcelain was produced. Over the centuries, the high product quality of the here manufactured goods gained great reputation and the bottom-marks, applied by the workers, became an exclusive trademark. This decor shows a beautiful pattern made up of a mix of these markings. The result is an extremely unique and classy design with a history. As one of the most original vessels for making tea, the gaiwan is also a classic accessory with a long tradition. It usually consists of three parts, a cup, a lid and a saucer. The gaiwan is suitable both as a teacup and for making tea. And this is how it works: Simply place tea leaves in the cup, pour in water at the appropriate temperature and close the lid. After the infusion time, simply tilt the lid at an angle to create a small slit at the edge. The tea can now easily be poured into a bowl or cup. The tea leaves remain in the gaiwan and can be used for further infusions if desired.
Our tip: The gaiwan is particularly suitable for loose leaf teas such as Pai Mu Tan, Pu Erh or Oolong Teas.
